JOSEPH BONZO, son of Jean Gabriel Bonzon and Mary F. Powell, was born May 29, 1832 in Beaver county, Pennsylvania, and died April 04, 1916 in Madison township, County, Ohio.
He married MARY WILSON November 30, 1854 in Scioto County, Ohio. Mary is the daughter of George Wilson and Rachel Storer. She was born May 10, 1833 in Scioto County, Ohio, and died March 20, 1922 in Washington Township, Scioto County, Ohio.

Mary Jane Bonzo, twin of Joshua Joseph, was born September 5, 1855 and died September 6, 1855.

Rachel Bonzo was born on October 23, 1859 in Scioto county, Ohio and died on October 14, 1949. She married John (or possibly Henry) Shear (or Scherer) on January (or June) 26 (or 28), 1877 in Scioto county, Ohio - it depends on which obituary you read. In references dated 1916 and 1922, she is living in Plain City, Ohio.
Amanda Caroline Bonzo married Andrew David Allen.
Lewis P. Bonzo married Anna Mathilda Matz.
Joseph Valentine Bonzo married Sarah Winifred Musgrove.
Elizabeth M. Allen and Andrew David Allen are siblings.
Bonzo, being hale and hearty. She is 84 years of age.
Mr Bonzo came to Madison township when twelve years of age {1844}. He married Miss Mary Wilson of Madison township. The deceased was a hard worker and worked about his farm up until the time of his death. He started in with forty acres of wooded land, ax, mattox, tooth-harrow and one horse.
At the time of his death he owned 500 acres of farm land and was the biggest tax payer in Madison township. He was a stock raiser and always kept a large flock of sheep. Mr Bonzo was strictly honest in all his dealings and treated everyone alike, everybody who knew him being his friend. He loved his home life and family. The deceased never knew what it was to be sick and was always up and doing, his neighbors being helped out of many difficulties by his kind deeds.
The deceased was a member of the Madison township United Brethren church and a faithful attendant. Besides his wife, the deceased is survived by six children, Joshua of Madison township; Louis, of Vancouver, Wash.; Ex-Policeman Joe Bonzo Jr., of 1640 Twelfth street, this city; Mrs Rachel Scherer, of Plain City, O.; Mrs. Amanda Allen, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Mrs Mary Jane Alexander, of Madison township; also one brother, Theophilus Bonzo, and one sister, Mrs Mary Jane Chapman, of Carter City, Ky."
According to a Bonzo Family member who deals in these things, a mattox is a tool for removing tree stumps, and a tooth-harrow is a rake-like thing which is dragged across freshly plowed land to break up the larger clumps."

From the 'Portsmouth Daily Times' -Portsmouth, Ohio; March 21, 1922:
"Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Bonzo, who died at the county infirmary about 5:30 o'clock Monday evening will be held probably Thursday. Telegrams were sent to the children in the West today by Joseph Bonzo and arrangements for the funeral will be made when word is received from them.
Mrs. Bonzo, who was born and reared in Madison township near Minford had been seriously ill for several months. She had been bedfast for sometime with a broken hip, suffered some years ago causing continued ill health. the deceased was 88 years of age and was well known in the Madison township community where she spent the greater part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Bonzo, who passed away four years ago. She is survived by six children, Mrs Rachel Shear of Plain City, Ohio; Mrs Amanda Allen of Blackfoot, Idaho; Mrs Mary Jane Alexander of New Boston; Lewis Bonzo of Vancouver Washington; Joshua Bonzo of Madison Township and Joseph Bonzo of this city."

JOSEPH BONZO: CENSUS: 1850, 1860
From the 'Portsmouth Daily Times' - Portsmouth, Ohio; 6 April 1916: "The funeral services of the late Joseph Bonzo, who passed away at his home in Madison township, Scioto county, were conducted from the old home there Wednesday morning at 11:30, and the last rites of this splendid citizen and the father of Ex-Policeman Joseph Bonzo Jr., of this city, were largely attended. Interment was in the Mt. Carmel cemetery, which is located near the Bonzo home.
The deceased was born in Beaver county, Pa., a son of Mr. and Mrs John Bonzo, the father coming to this country from Switzerland. Had Joseph Bonzo Sr. lived until May 16, he would have been 85 years of age. He is the first of his family to pass away, his wife Mrs. Mary
