JOSEPH ZAHLER, son of Jeanne Henriette Bonzon and Joseph Zahler, was born September 11, 1831 in New Sewickley, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and died July 16, 1915 in Madison Township, Scioto County, Ohio. He married ELIZABETH BROWN June 06, 1861 in Harrisonville, Ohio. She was born August 22, 1834, and died January 31, 1903 in Madison Township, Scioto County, Ohio.
George Washington Zahler married Mary Catherine Stockham.

From Bonzo Family Researchers and Zahler Descendants: Birth and Baptism info from St. Paul's German Lutheran and Reformed Church records St. Paul's is located in Zelienople, Pennsylvania. Although Sept 12 appears to be the death date from the gravestone, the Zahllar Family Bible has wriiten in it: "Joseph Zahllar Sept 11, 1831" ,according to owner [Living Descendant].
In the1850 census he is listed with his uncle Charles Bonzo and in the 1860 census he is listed with Theophilus Fombelle.
In a Scioto County History that was published 1986, the Zaler article says: "Joseph and Elizabeth Brown Zaler settled in Scioto County Minford in the 1860's. He was a Civil War veteran and while in service changed his name from Zahler to Zaler." He served during the Civil War from August 22, 1864 to June 26, 1865 as a Corporal in Co. G., 173rd OVI [Ohio Volunteer Infantry] according to Scioto County Ohio Military Grave Registration.
Joseph was a carpenter. He rests at Squires Cemetery, Minford, Ohio
