THEOPHOLIS LEWIS BONZO. son of Peter Lewis Bonzo and Rebecca Brooks,  was born May 03, 1840, and died January 29, 1896 in Wurtemburg, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.  A Civil War veteran, "Tuft" was at Gettysburg, as well as other battles.

He married SYLVIA COLEMAN BOOTS March 12, 1868 in New Brighton, Pennsylvania, daughter of John Boots and Sylvia Coleman.  She was born January 28, 1844 in Marion Township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and died April 1910 in Wurtemburg, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.

Lucy Ethel Penberthy Bonzo, adopted as a child, married Gardner Majors.  Their son, Theopholis Lewis Majors, is the the author of The Memoirs of T. Lewis Majors.
THEOPHOLIS LEWIS BONZO:
From Various Bonzo family researchers:   Theopholis Bonzo appears on a 'List of Persons Drafted for Beaver County Civil War Service' which was published in the 'Beaver Argus', Oct 22, 1862.  He is listed under North Sewickley Township.

Theopholis was captured and held at Andersonville prison during the Civil War.

Theopholis went by the nickname "Tuft".

From Rex Bonzo's 1968 Family History:  Some notes on Theopolus L. Bunzo {sic}...  Sargeant T. L. Bunzo (note spelling) Company 6, Third Provost Regiment, Pennsylvania Cavalry....

Dates and middle name from Family Group Sheet provided by Boots Family researcher in 1996.  Other sources only supply middle initial "L".

Andersonville, GA, records: Company G, Regiment 18, PA, Cavalry. Captured 11/18/1863 at Stevensburg-Rapidan.   Paroled on 11/20/1864.

From a Boots Family researcher:  Theopholis actually paid his way out of prison.

"Boots Family Reunion"
"One of the most interesting events of the season was the fifth annual reunion of the Boots family, at the residence of Mr S. D. Boots, near Brush Creek, Beaver county, ...
      ...At 3 o'clock the meeting was called to order and T. L Bunzo appointed president and Alice C. Johnston , secretary of the meeting..."


"Tuft" rests at Presbyterian Cemetery, on Chapel Drive just south of Ellwood City, North Sewickley, Pennsylvania
