Children of Sophia Bonzon and Joseph Powell
Notes for Sophia and Joseph:
The birth year for Sophia is estimated from census. Other Researchers have 1803 Zelienople, PA. Death date from a Researcher who probably got it from the "History of Butler County, Pa.". CENSUS: 1850, 1860, 1870
From "History of Butler County, Pa." -- "Joseph Powell, Sr. {sic}, was born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, in 1793, learned the blacksmith's trade in his native, and before reaching his majority removed with his parents to Beaver county. He there married Sophia Bonzo {sic}, of that county, and continued working at his trade for some five years after his marriage. He then purchased a farm of seventy-five acres in Beaver county, where he resided for a period of thirty years. At the end of this time he bought a farm in Lancaster township, Butler county, now the home of his son Joseph, settled upon it and lived there until his death, in 1870. His wife died in 1879. They were the parents of the following children: Peter; Joseph; Margaret, deceased wife of George Teets; Charley, who died in the army; Mary; Jane; John; Edward; Lizzie; and Bell, deceased. Mr. Powell and wife were members of the Baptist church and in politics, he was an adherent of the Republican Party.
Information in the Bonzo folder in Beaver Falls' Carnegie Library gives dates of 4 Oct 1812 - 12 Feb 1867 for Joseph Powell with burial in "Kronk" Cemetery. (birth date seems very suspicious). Another has him born in 1784. One Researcher on Rootsweb World Connect gives birth date as 18 Jan 1794 and this seems quite likely. A second Researcher gives death date as 20 March 1876 in New Sewickley Township., Beaver County, but burial for Joseph & Sophia in Kronk Cemetery in Madison, Scioto County, Ohio!?

SOPHIA BONZON was born between 1803 and 1805, and died 1879. She married JOSEPH POWELL, son of JOSEPH POWELL and BARBARA BEAM. He was born January 18, 1794 in Washington county, Pennsylvania, and died 1870 in Lancaster township, Butler county, Pennsylvania. Sophia has the distinction of being the first native-born American Bonzo. Family lore has it that because Sophia was a sickly baby, the family did not travel on to Kentucky as originally planned, but settled in Beaver county, Pennsylvania.
